What a difference a day makes.
Just one day after Lance Mackey pulled ahead of the Iditarod pack, Paul Gebhardt of Kasilof has taken over the lead as the first musher out of Ophir earlier this afternoon.
Mackey, the defending Iditarod champion, has now dropped to 11th place, but with the mandatory 8 and 24 hours layovers yet to come, it’s still anyone’s race.
